Seven decades ago, the Political Service Board, the predecessor of the present Department of Politics, was founded, marking the development in the organization and missions of an organ specializing in implementing Party and political work in the GS.

During their construction, combat and growth phases, the department’s generations of staff have overcome difficulties and striven for the comprehensive development of the Department.

Though undergoing changes in organization and operation mechanisms, the Department of Politics has fulfilled its functions and missions as a staff organ of the GS’s Party Committee and the leadership, making important contributions to building a politically, ideologically and organizationally-strong department with all assigned missions fulfilled.

Addressing the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang, member of the Party Central Committee, permanent member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy-Defense Minister, acknowledged, applauded and congratulated the Department’s staff for their achievements over the past 70 years.

General Giang emphasized that to build a revolutionary, regular, elite and gradually-modernized military and a strong and elite General Staff to meet the requirements in Fatherland construction and protection in the current period, the Party and political work must be focused on four main contents of furthering political and ideological education, giving recommendations and instruction on Party and political work implementation, managing well each unit’s political situation and promoting emulation movements, contributing to building strong and healthy Party cells and comprehensively-strong units.

On this occasion, authorized by the State President, General Giang handed over the Second-class Fatherland Protection Order to the Department.
