Originally established as the Chemical School on September 21, 1976, the Chemical Officer Candidate School has spent the past five decades training thousands of chemical technical officers, non-commissioned officers, and professional personnel for the whole military.

The school has also sent hundreds of experts to Laos and Cambodia to provide training for more than 1,000 chemical personnel.
Over the past time, the school has continued to provide high-quality personnel for the military, contributing to building the chemical force into a core force capable of pro-actively and promptly responding to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear incidents, as well as addressing environmental disasters nationwide.
Authorized by the State President, General Nguyen Tan Cuong presented the First-class Fatherland Protection Order to the school.
On behalf of the Standing Committee of the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defense’s leadership, General Nguyen Tan Cuong congratulated the school on its outstanding achievements over the past 50 years.
To meet future task requirements, General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested the school to strictly and effectively implement resolutions on breakthroughs in education and training, science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
He urged the school to pro-actively review, adjust, and supplement its training programs to ensure they are synchronous, practical, standardized, modern, and interconnected across educational levels.
The general emphasized the need to effectively implement the principle that training quality determines the combat readiness capability of military units. He called for a shift from 'teaching what is available' to 'teaching what learners and the military need'; from simply imparting knowledge to comprehensively developing learners’ physical strength, qualities, and capabilities; and from focusing mainly on scores to assessing learners’ actual progress.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong also asked the school to step up research and update its knowledge of modern military art. The school should focus on developing a digital competency framework for learners, establishing criteria for a smart school, and building a standardized military pedagogical cultural environment.
He stressed the importance of developing exemplary and dedicated officers and lecturers who uphold the spirit of lifelong learning and self-study.
With the people placed at the center, as the subject, goal, and driving force of education and training, the school was requested to pay due attention to developing young instructors in military specialized fields.
