    PANO - For Lieutenant Colonel Dang Thu Ha, December 31, 2025 marked a special milestone. On the final day of the year, she and three other officers were honored to receive the President’s decision from the Ministry of National Defense to take on U.N. peacekeeping duties in 2026.

Yet for the Vietnamese blue berets serving at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), this year’s journey of love does not pass through Noi Bai or Tan Son Nhat airports. Instead, it stretches across the red-dust roads of Bangui, shaping a special spring reunion where comradeship, solidarity, and the mission of peacekeeping blend into a steady heartbeat far from home.

    PANO - While the days leading up to the Lunar New Year (Tet) in Vietnam are filled with the colors of spring, fireworks, and joyful family reunions, the atmosphere in Bentiu, Republic of South Sudan, tells a different story. There, Vietnam’s Level-2 Field Hospital Rotation 7 is carrying out its U.N. peacekeeping duties amidst a security situation marked by complex developments and potential instability.

    PANO - As the Lunar New Year approaches, handmade peach and apricot blossoms bring a touch of spring inside Highway Camp. Beyond the perimeter, however, soldiers of Vietnam’s Engineering Company Rotation 4 continue to labor under the scorching dry-season sun, reinforcing earthen embankments in the volatile buffer zone of Abyei. Here, peace is secured through a special defensive system where sweat and soil merge with modern surveillance technology and above all, with the steadfast resolve of Uncle Ho’s soldiers.

    PANO - Amidst the vast land of Central Africa Republic, where power and water outages are part of daily life, traditional Vietnamese fried spring rolls (nem ran) still make their appearance to welcome the Lunar New Year (Tet), complete with fresh herbs and garlic fish sauce. Ingredients brought from home, combined with local African produce, have created an early Tet celebration that is simple yet warm for Vietnamese blue-beret soldiers carrying out United Nations peacekeeping duties.

    PANO – On February 13, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense, received Michael George DeSombre, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.
    Meeting helps enhance coordination in safeguarding Vietnam - China Border

    PANO – On February 12, at Border Marker 219 along the Vietnam - China border, the People’s Committee of Ban May commune, Vietnam’s Tuyen Quang province, in coordination with Ban May Border Post under the Tuyen Quang Provincial Border Guard Command, held talks and extend Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to a delegation from the People’s Authority of Dulong Town, Maguan County, China’s Yunnan Province, and the Chinese border management and protection force.
    Voyages that strengthen bonds of friendship

    PANO – I have been fortunate to accompany the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) on numerous overseas voyages to visit and engage with coast guard forces of other countries. Among those journeys, one mission left a particularly deep impression on me: the visit and exchange aboard Ship 8002 of Coast Guard Region 2 to the Philippine Coast Guard in October 2025.
