The competition brings together 14 military units and academies, competing across three categories: individual, sniper pair, and team. The individual category comprises five events; the sniper pair one consists of three events; and the team category features two events.

According to the Organizing Committee, the competition aims to evaluate the training quality of sniper forces across agencies, units, and academies. It serves as a basis to draw lessons learned, enhance training quality, and boost the combat readiness of sniper squads throughout the military. Additionally, it will select outstanding marksmen for the Military Shooting Team to achieve high results at regional and international sniper tournaments in 2026.
Delivering his opening speech, Lieutenant General Nguyen Ba Luc underscored that amidst fast-changing developments in modern warfare, successfully building a “revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern” military requires synchronized measures to enhance training quality and combat readiness. He highlighted the need to master all in-service weapons and equipment, as well as handle battlefield contingencies promptly. Specifically, upgrading the combat skills of sniper forces plays a vital role in observing, detecting, and neutralizing high-value tactical targets, supporting battlefield control, assisting other forces in completing missions, and enhancing overall combat effectiveness.
In recent years, sniper forces across all military units have been properly manned and have achieved strong results through grassroots training, assessments, and competitions. The sniper team under the Military Shooting Contingent has consistently delivered outstanding performances in regional and international competitions.
To ensure the competition meets its goals and maintains absolute safety, Lieutenant General Nguyen Ba Luc required the Organizing Committee, subcommittees, and participating forces to uphold their high sense of responsibility. The event must be run strictly according to the approved schedule and plan, ensuring a scientific, rigorous, and disciplined process. Scoring must strictly follow regulations and shooting conditions, remaining honest, objective, fair, and error-free. Following the event, the results must be reported promptly to propose practical solutions for guiding the entire military in maximizing the exploitation and employment of newly-made weapons and equipment.
For the competing teams, the Deputy Chief of the General Staff instructed snipers to maintain high determination, solidarity, discipline, and mutual learning. They must adhere strictly to military discipline and the organizing regulations, adhere to timetables, maintain authorized troop numbers, and ensure absolute safety for personnel, weapons, and equipment. After the competition, units must promptly review to draw lessons learned, addressing weak points to comprehensively enhance their proficiency to fulfill all assigned missions.
Right after the opening ceremony, the snipers entered the daytime fixed-target shooting competition.
According to the plan, the competition will run until September 19.
