The statement was made by Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang at a meeting of the Ministry of National Defense on February 19.

At the event, delegates evaluated that during the lunar New Year (Tet) 2024 holiday, the whole military strictly observed combat readiness regulations; organized a happy, safe, economical Tet for troops; closely followed and strictly managed the air, sea and islands, border areas, mainland, cyberspace; made recommendations to higher levels to handle military and defense circumstances in a timely and effective manner to firmly safeguard national sovereignty; well coordinated to maintain security and order for people to welcome Tet.

Forces and vehicles were mobilized to rescue seven people and 41 vehicles in some localities; 240 teams with around 1,000 border guard troops were maintained to closely manage border areas, border gates, ports to prevent illegal exit and entry. Together with organizing Tet activities, agencies and units focused on information dissemination and exerted efforts to obtain achievements to mark the 94th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, ensured logistics and technical supplies for missions, well prepared for the enlistment drive this year, and practically organized the “tree-planting festival.”

Speaking at the event, Gen, Giang praised troops in the whole military for their efforts in successfully completing all assigned missions. He highlighted military press agencies’ activeness and pro-activeness in disseminating the whole military’s implementation of military and defense work and troops’ New Year celebration.

In the coming time, the Defense Minister asked the whole military to continue to drastically and synchronously apply measures to comprehensively complete all aspects of work. In particular, agencies and units should strictly observe combat readiness regulations; closely follow and accurately forecast the situational developments; promptly advise and effectively handle military and defense circumstances; well streamline the organization; effectively launch new training season; train forces to participate in parade to mark the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory. 

Gen. Giang noted that the whole military should grasp troops’ thoughts after the lunar New Year and their relationship with locals, well conduct ideological and political education and information dissemination; combat wrongful and hostile viewpoints to firmly protect the Party’s ideological foundation; pro-actively, flexibly, and effectively carry out defense diplomacy; promote administrative reform, e-Government development, and digital transformation.
