During the meeting, the host highlighted the significance of the visit as Viet Nam and the Philippines celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations (July 12, 1976 – 2026) and continue implementing the common orientations of their senior leaders on military and defense cooperation.

He noted that the two countries are maritime neighbors and active ASEAN members, and that bilateral military cooperation has seen positive results in recent years, particularly through delegation exchanges, cooperation mechanisms, cooperation between services and arms, human resource training, young officer exchanges, and coordination at ASEAN-led multilateral defense and military forums.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong also praised the results of cooperation between the two air forces and the talks between their commanders, affirming that the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army would continue to support and facilitate substantive cooperation between the two air forces.

Building on the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation signed by the two countries’ defense ministers during General Secretary and President To Lam’s recent state visit to the Philippines, he called on the two air forces to further promote cooperation in delegation exchanges, training, Air Force consultations, young officer exchanges, professional exchanges, and search and rescue.

The Vietnamese official welcomed the leaders of the Philippine Department of National Defense, Armed Forces, and Air Force to attend the third Viet Nam Defense Expo in Hanoi in December 2026.

Lt. Gen. Arthur M. Cordura expressed satisfaction with his positive and productive working session with the Commander of the Viet Nam Air Defense - Air Force Service. He welcomed the progress in bilateral defense cooperation and cooperation between the two air forces, expressing his hope that the two sides would effectively implement agreed areas of cooperation, contributing to stronger ties between the two militaries and countries and to deeper cooperation between their air forces.
