According to reports by agencies and units, on the first days of the Lunar New Year holidays, the whole military has strictly observed combat readiness; closely followed situational developments; well carried out duty regulations and were ready to handle circumstances. Naval, coast guard, and border guard forces and those performing missions on the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago and DK1 platforms, and on-duty ships at sea have well observed combat readiness regulations and actively participated in search and rescue tasks and supporting fishermen.
The whole military has well taken care of the material and spiritual life of troops and their families, policy beneficiaries, national contributors, and poor people and held various New Year celebration activities for troops.
Concluding the event, Gen. Cuong evaluated that despite difficulties and challenges, the whole Party, people, and military last year obtained important achievements in all fields. Those results were highly appreciated by international friends and contributed to strengthening the people’s trust in the Party and State.
In the military, under the leadership of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, the whole military has stayed united and strived to comprehensively and effectively fulfill targets in 2023. Notably, the military closely followed, accurately evaluated, and forecast situational developments and made timely recommendation to the Party and State to handle circumstances in a timely, flexible, and effective manner; well managed the air, sea, border areas, mainland, and cyber space.

In the year, the military well performed their core role in building firm whole-people’s defense posture in combination with security disposition, the whole-people's heart posture, and defensive areas; successfully fulfilled the function of a military of combat, a military of work, and a military of production; was a vanguard force in natural disaster response, disease prevention, and search and rescue; successfully organized exercises at different scales. The training quality and troops’ mastery of weapons and equipment have been enhanced.
Notably, the whole military has been consistent and vanguard in protecting the Party’s ideological foundation and combating wrongful and hostile views. The international integration and defense diplomacy work has been implemented in an active, pro-active, wise, flexible, substantial, and effective manner, contributing to building strategic trust, enhancing the country’s position and prestige, and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment for national development.
Praising the whole military for the obtained results, Gen. Cuong asked agencies and units to continue to thoroughly grasp and strictly carry out direction of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, who is also Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and the Minister of National Defense. In particular, agencies, units, and troops in the whole military should effectively bring into play the tradition of the heroic Vietnam People’s Army, stay united, and strive to obtained higher results in the coming time.

In the short-term, the whole military should grasp and strictly carry out directives on combat readiness regulation observance and organization of New Year celebration activities; maintain combat readiness; hold healthy, safe, economical, high-combat readiness Tet for troops; review the enlistment plan and preparation for the handover of enlistees.
