Since joining the U.N. in 1977, relations between Viet Nam and the world’s largest multilateral organization have continued to be consolidated and strengthened. The U.N. has consistently accompanied Viet Nam and implemented numerous practical and effective support programs during the country’s process of renewal, international integration, national construction and development. In turn, Viet Nam has made increasingly substantive contributions, undertaken numerous international responsibilities, and pro-actively participated in and promoted its constructive role in key global areas.

One of Viet Nam’s notable contributions has been its active and effective participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations, which has been recognized and highly appreciated by the international community. This is clear evidence of a Viet Nam that is ready to share responsibilities and join hands for peace, security and sustainable development. This solid foundation of cooperation provides a basis for Viet Nam to continue promoting its role and making responsible contributions to the common goals of the U.N. and the international community in the next stage of development.

At the UNGA 81, Viet Nam will continue to affirm its strong regard for the U.N.’s pivotal role in maintaining peace and security, promoting sustainable development and protecting the common values of humanity, while putting forward ideas and initiatives to advance shared goals. Activities within the framework of the trip will also contribute to deepening Viet Nam-U.N. relations, while leveraging the support of the U.N. system for Viet Nam’s development priorities and initiatives at multilateral forums.

Alongside multilateral activities, General Secretary and President To Lam’s bilateral engagements in the U.S. are of practical significance in further deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Viet Nam and the U.S.

Relations between the two countries are maintaining positive momentum, creating a foundation for translating high-level leaders’ commitments into concrete outcomes, enhancing the effectiveness of cooperation across various fields, and turning major orientations into tangible results. At the same time, political and diplomatic relations continue to be strengthened through exchanges and contacts at various levels. Economic, trade and investment ties have maintained their growth momentum. Defense and security cooperation has achieved positive results, particularly in addressing the consequences of war. Cooperation in science and technology has expanded into high-tech areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and high-quality human resources training. The U.S. also attaches importance to Viet Nam’s role and coordination in addressing regional and global issues.

On that foundation, the trip conveys the message that Viet Nam is ready to work with the U.S. to usher the comprehensive strategic partnership into a new stage of development, in line with the interests of both sides. In particular, economic, trade and investment cooperation will continue to play a pivotal role, while science and technology, especially strategic technologies, need to achieve breakthroughs, expand room for cooperation and make practical contributions to the development of both countries.

The General Secretary and President’s meetings with U.S. political figures, businesses, scholars and friends will contribute to broadening support for Viet Nam and bilateral relations. Meetings with the Vietnamese community in the U.S. will further demonstrate the policy of great national unity, foster their bonds with the homeland, and attract additional resources for national development.

With its important significance in both multilateral and bilateral dimensions, General Secretary and President To Lam’s trip affirms that Viet Nam is a reliable partner and a responsible member of the international community. At the same time, Viet Nam stands ready to promote balanced, harmonious, sustainable and mutually beneficial development of Viet Nam-U.S. relations, making practical contributions to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
