At the meeting, both sides affirmed that the elevation of Viet Nam-South Africa relations to a Strategic Partnership in November 2025 has created favorable conditions for bilateral cooperation, including defense cooperation, to develop in a deeper and more practical manner.
The two sides emphasized that this cooperation is in line with the needs, capabilities, and interests of both countries, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, and common development.

In the defense field, South Africa is one of Viet Nam’s active partners in Africa. The “Agreement on Defense Relations” signed by the two defense ministries serves as an important foundation for promoting cooperation in areas such as defense industry, training, logistics, and military medicine.
In the time to come, the Vietnamese Defense Ministry will continue closely coordinating with the South African Department of Defense and Military Veterans to promote defense cooperation in accordance with the Strategic Partnership framework.
The two sides will focus on strengthening exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly high-level delegations; maintaining the effectiveness of the Defense Policy Dialogue mechanism; and promoting cooperation in training, defense industry, and U.N. peacekeeping operations.

Regarding the third Viet Nam Defense Expo, scheduled to take place in Ha Noi this December, Senior Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son invited a high-ranking delegation from the South African Department of Defense and Military Veterans and the South African National Defense Force to attend the event.
He also invited South African defense enterprises to display their products at the expo, contributing to its success and further strengthening Viet Nam-South Africa defense cooperation.
