Vietnamese Minister of National Defense meets with RoK counterpart

The meeting was part of the ongoing state visit to the RoK by Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse, and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.

At the event, Gen. Giang congratulated Minister Ahn Gyu-back on his appointment as Minister of National Defense of the RoK. He expressed his desire to work with Minister Ahn to further promote the bilateral defense cooperation in a more intensive and substantive manner, making it a true pillar in the two countries’ comprehensive strategic partnership.

An overview of the meeting

Minister Ahn expressed his delight at meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart to discuss defense cooperation between the two countries. He stressed that Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit will make an important contribution to strengthening the friendly, cooperative, and comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. He affirmed that in his new post, he will give due attention and create favorable conditions to develop the bilateral defense cooperation in a more effective and substantive manner. The two ministers agreed that the bilateral defense ties have been actively promoted by both sides, and have been continuously expanded, deepened, and reaped practical outcomes. They stressed the continuation of the above areas of cooperation while paying attention to and facilitating joint activities between the research agencies of the two militaries and in cyber security and military medicine.

Gen. Giang thanked the RoK’s Ministry of National Defense for supporting and participating in the second Vietnam Defense Expo in December 2024, highly valued the RoK cooperation and assistance in education and training and proposed that in the time ahead the RoK Ministry of National Defense continue to cooperate in training high-quality human resources for the Vietnamese counterpart, particularly in specialized areas such as science and technology, artificial intelligence, and cyber security.

Minister Giang invited Minister Ahn to pay an official visit to Vietnam at the earliest time.

The same day, General Phan Van Giang visited Dunamu Group, the operator of Upbit, the RoK’s largest centralized digital asset exchange.
