Reinforcing dykes in Phu Vang district with sand bags |
On April 1 and 2, many places in Thua Thien Hue, especially low-lying ones were flooded. Thousands of hectares of rice and farm produce were at risk of damage.
In that situation, on April 2, the Thua Thien Hue provincial Military Command directed its affiliates to mobilize troops, militia and self-defense forces to team with other forces to help local people.
In Phu Vang district, the local military command sent troops, militiamen and self-defense troops to transport thousands of sand bags to reinforce embankments to prevent waterlogging in rice fields.
Despite heavy rain and hard work, the local armed forces and people coordinated actively and effectively, said Bui Quang Truc, Secretary of Phu Ho commune’s Party Committee.
Meanwhile, in Phong Dien district with Phong Dien, Phong Chuong and Ngu Dien communes badly hit and farm produce in Dien Huong and Dien Mon communes submerged, the district’s military command’s leaders went to the scene to direct the disaster relief. Standby troops and militia and self-defense forces joined hands in consolidating embankment to prevent floodwater from entering fields.

Major Nguyen Van Thanh, Chief of Phong Dien district’s Military Command said that both troops and machines were mobilized for the embankment reinforcement. At noon of April 2, broken dykes and flooded areas were repaired.
According to the Thua Thien Hue provincial Military Command, nearly 1,000 troops and militia and self-defense personnel were engaged in the disaster relief.
In Quang Tri province, water level of rivers rose resulting in flooding low-lying places in Hai Lang district. In addition, inter-village and inter-commune roads in Hai Lam and Hai Phong communes and several residential areas were inundated. More than 5,200ha of rice and 1,280ha of farm produce were heavily flooded and at risk of complete destruction.
Hai Lang district’s Military Command on April 1 and 2 deployed 148 troops to reinforce dykes in Hai Phong and Hai Dinh communes to protect local crops.
Troops and vehicles in Thua Thien Hue and Quang Tri provinces will continue their efforts to ensure safety for the locals and their property.
