The Commands of Military Regions 1, 2, 3, and 4 were directed to lead local military commands in closely coordinating with authorities and other forces to assist people in repairing homes and key infrastructure, especially in healthcare, education, power, water, telecoms, and transport in severely affected provinces such as Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, and Cao Bang.

Troops continue disaster relief efforts in storm-hit areas.

The Vietnam Border Guard was tasked with directing its affiliates at provincial level to mobilize forces and vehicles to search for the missing, support disaster relief, and keep a close watch on Storm Matmo’s developments to promptly warn fishermen at sea to take shelters.

The Office of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee reported that as of October 3 afternoon, the military had deployed nearly 29,400 regular troops and militia personnel, along with vehicles and equipment, to assist storm-hit localities in disaster recovery.

Disinfecting flood-hit areas

The same day, over 200 personnel from the military, public security, and other forces continued search efforts for nine missing fishermen from two sunken vessels (BV 92756 TS and BV 92754 TS) that broke loose from moorings in Bac Gianh ward, Quang Tri province on the night of September 28.

Also on October 3, hundreds of troops from Regiment 877 and the Border Guard Command under the Tuyen Quang Provincial Military Command joined local efforts to restore schools, enabling students to return to class and helping residents repair homes and clean up to resume normal life.

In recent days, the Air Defense - Air Force Technical College under the Air Defense - Air Force Service has mobilized nearly 200 officers, instructors, cadets, and soldiers to support flood recovery in Hanoi’s Thanh Oai commune. At Van Quan and Trinh Xa villages, they helped harvest over 8 hectares of flooded rice fields, cleaned 4 kilometers of roads, and cleared more than 2 kilometers of irrigation system. The school will continue assistance in Cu Than and Dong Gia villages in the coming days.
