Cat Ba Border Guard Station promptly rescues distressed vessel
PANO - At 12:15 on November 28, the Cat Ba Border Guard Station (under the Hai Phong Municipal Border Guard Command) received a request to rescue a vessel in distress at sea.
The information was provided by Mai Quang Linh (born in 1973, a resident of Xuan Ninh Commune, Xuan Truong District, Nam Dinh Province), a crew-member of Vessel HP 4250.
According to reports, Vessel Nam Tuong 06, carrying 1,270 cubic meters of sand from Quang Ninh Province to Cat Ba Bay, struck a submerged rock near Hang Vuong Channel (Cat Ba Townlet, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City), approximately one nautical mile southeast of the shore.

The vessel was at risk of sinking, endangering the lives of its nine crew members. Upon receiving the report, the Hai Phong Municipal Border Guard Command directed the Cat Ba Border Guard Station to promptly deploy rescue forces.
The unit mobilized two rescue boats and seven officers and soldiers, led by Lieutenant Colonel Bui Anh Tuan, Deputy Commanding Officer of the Cat Ba Border Guard Station, to the scene. By 12:50 p.m., the rescue team had reached the distressed vessel and evacuated two elderly crew-members onto the rescue boat. The team also provided life jackets to the remaining crew members, guided them in pumping sand out of the vessel to prevent sinking, and carried out other rescue measures.

Currently, the Cat Ba Border Guard Station continues to maintain rescue forces on-site to ensure the safety of the remaining crew-members during the sand-pumping operation and incident resolution efforts.
