Over the past days, Ly San Phu’s family in Ta Mieu hamlet, Sin Thau commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province, reinforced their buffalo pen in the corner of their yard. With the timely support from border guards of A Pa Chai Border Post, the family’s livestock shelters were reinforced. The young soldiers also instructed the family on how to store dry straw, elephant grass, and banana trunks to ensure food for buffaloes and cows during upcoming cold, rainy days.

Lo Van Tha in Ta Ko Ky hamlet, Sin Thau commune, is one of the households supported by the A Pa Chai Border Post in escaping poverty over the past few years. Visiting Tha’s house, Lieutenant Colonel Doan Thanh Tuan walked around the wooden house, carefully inspected the family’s livestock shelters to make sure that they were well-reinforced.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Doan Thanh Tuan, the unit is responsible for safeguarding a 38.281 km-long borderline section along the two routes of the Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-China borders, with 16 border markers.
In recent years, alongside patrols and ensuring the security of the border areas and border markers, as well as combating crimes, A Pa Chai Border Post has mobilized local people and strengthened political systems at the grassroots level. To do so, the unit has assigned officers and Party members to assist disadvantaged households in economic development and poverty alleviation, among others.
In the 2019-2024 period, officers and soldiers of A Pa Chai Border Post, in coordination with local authorities, disseminated laws to 5,200 border people, and prevented illegal border crossings. In addition, the unit’s youths have implemented various programs to support local people to develop economy and build new-style rural areas, such as “Border guards join hands in building new-style rural areas,” “Paving the way to school for children,” and “Border spring warms up people's hearts,” among others.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung, Head of A Pa Chai Border Post, over the past five years, the unit has coordinated with charitable organizations and businesses, as well as central and local authorities, to present many gifts, school supplies, and necessities to students and local people in Sin Thau commune, worth totally VND 2.267 billion. These efforts have contributed to reducing the poverty rate in the area from 45.9% to 20% over the past five years.
The mass mobilization efforts and political system building have yielded significant results. These activities have strengthened people’s trust and support for the unit’s task implementation. In recent years, more than 500 militiamen and local people have volunteered to protect border markers, together with officers and soldiers.
