Deputy Defense Minister, Senior Lieutenant General Be Xuan Truong visited and presented 98 gifts of the Central Military Commission (CMC) and Ministry of National Defense (MND) to wounded and sick soldiers at the Convalescent Center for Wounded Soldiers in Bac Ninh province’s Thuan Thanh district and another gift worth over VND 10 million to the center.

General Truong emphasized that the CMC and MND have always acknowledged and appreciated the center staff’s all-out efforts for their mission of taking care of sick and wounded soldiers assigned by the Party and the State. He also hoped that the wounded and sick soldiers at the center will continue bringing into play good virtues of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and encourage their relatives to make more contribution to their hometowns and the country.

Deputy Defense Minister, Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Chiem leading a CMC, MND delegation paid homage to fallen soldiers at a war cemetery in Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province. General Chiem expressed respect for the fallen soldiers who had sacrificed their blood, flesh, and youth for national independence and freedom.

On the occasion, the delegation gifted 20 national contributors in the city, and hoped that they would always set bright examples for younger generations. General Chiem also asked the local Party committee and authorities to pay more attention to further improving the material and spiritual life of local national contributors.

Meanwhile, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Trong Nghia, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army, visited the Vietnam Friendship Village in Hoai Duc district, Hanoi. The village has taken cared of more than 7,000 veterans, former volunteer troops and provided vocational training for over 700 disadvantaged child victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin since its establishment.

Presenting gifts to the village’s staff, General Nghia hailed their high sense of responsibility and hoped that they would bring into play their achievements, diversify and improve the nursing quality as well as fulfill all assigned missions.

The village is currently nursing some 200 sick and wounded veterans, former volunteer troops and victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

* A gratitude house was handed over to Mai Thi Lien, mother of a fallen soldier, in Hoa Thuong commune, Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province by the Military Region 1 Command. Lien also received various gifts from military and civilian agencies, units and localities.

* The Department of Logistics of the General Department of Politics in collaboration with Military Hospital 354, the Military Social Insurance of the Ministry of National Defense, and the Military Youth Board provided free medical check-ups, health counseling, medicines for 120 needy policy beneficiaries and national contributors in Hang Ma ward, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi.

Earlier, nearly 400 needy people in Binh Duong and Binh Giang communes, Thang Binh district, Quang Nam province also enjoyed similar care by the department.

* During the seminar themed “Promoting wounded soldiers’ role in implementing local-level veterans’ associations’ missions and local political tasks” held on July 23 in Hanoi by the Hanoi Veterans’ Association, delegates spoke highly of the association’s members’ contributions to building and protecting the Party and administration, as well as of their mutual support in developing household economies, participation in building new-style rural areas, search and collection of remains of fallen soldiers, and education of the national tradition for younger generations. On the occasion, the association gifted members with outstanding achievements.

* In the buildup to the 72nd Vietnamese Wounded Soldiers’ and Martyrs’ Day (July 27), Military Hospital 110 of the Department of Logistics of Military Region 1 offered free health check-ups and medicines to nearly 400 national contributors and poor people in Dong Coc commune, Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province. The hospital also presented 50 gifts to local national contributors, and medical equipment, valued at VND 135 million, to the commune's medical clinic.

* In paying gratitude to those who rendered good service to the nation, Army Corps 12 has spent nearly VND 2 billion on building ten gratitude houses, 12 comradeship houses, presented gifts to wounded and sick soldiers of Unit 559 under treatment at convalescent centers, heroic Vietnamese mothers, and fallen soldiers’ relatives in the localities where the corps is stationed.

* The Department of Politics of Military Region 7 opened an exhibition entitled “The armed forces of Military Region 7 remember President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings and well carry out policies for wounded and sick soldiers” at the Museum of the Southeastern Armed Forces in Ho Chi Minh City.

On display are 70 photos and 300 exhibits related to fallen soldiers, 100 other photos featuring the region’s armed forces’ activities in implementing the movement “When drinking water, remember its source,” and 50 portraits of heroic Vietnamese mothers in the city as well as a number of related books, newspapers and documents.

Following this exhibition ending on August 9, the department will conduct a mobile exhibition to help troops and people in Military Region 7’s stationed areas learn more about the glorious traditions of the nation and the military.

* More than 100 policy beneficiaries, poor and elderly people in Xuan Le commune, Thuong Xuan district, Thanh Hoa province received health check-ups, health counseling and medicines for free from the Military Medical Unit of the Department of Logistics and Brigade 72, both under the Engineering Corps.
