Leaders from the Military Command of Tu Nghia district, Nghia Tho Primary School, and members of the women’s association of Nghia Thang commune visit and present gifts to Pham Thi Kim Sanh. |
Currently, Quang Ngai province has more than 3,000 children in unfortunate circumstances, orphaned and in need of help. Having learned about their situation, officers and soldiers of the provincial military command have launched several models to share the difficulties with the children. Particularly, they have taken on the responsibility of taking care of children in need both materially and emotionally.
Apart from carrying out the regular mission of protecting border areas, troops now shoulder the harder responsibility of foster fathers by giving them not only material support, but also spiritual one.
Lieutenant Colonel Ho Anh Triet, Deputy Political Commissar of the Military Command of Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai province, recalled that the first time he met the orphaned children, he felt both sympathetic and worried. The young officer said that he sympathized them because the children lost the most important pillar in their lives, but he felt worried about whether he could truly play the role of a father. “But when I looked into their hopeful eyes, I understood that we couldn’t give up,” Colonel Triet added.
Unlike other children, Pham Thi Kim Sanh, an ethnic H're child, lost both parents at a young age and lives with her elderly grandparents in difficult conditions.
Understanding her situation, for nearly two years, the soldiers of Tu Nghia district’s Military Command decided to take on the responsibility of supporting her. Thanks to their help, her grandparents’ hardships have been eased.
“My parents passed away early, and I had to live with my grandparents, who are very old. Life was very tough. Since the soldiers began supporting me, I feel like my family’s difficulties have been alleviated, and I have the opportunity to go to school with my friends and pursue my dreams. I am very grateful to them, and I will try my best to study hard to not disappoint them,” Sanh said.
According to Col. Triet, the unit provides Sanh with VND 500,000/month to help her with daily expenses, clothing, and school supplies. On holidays or during free time, the soldiers take turns visiting Sanh’s home, helping her with homework.

Major Ha Tan Hoang, Deputy Political Commissar of the Military Command of Tu Nghia, guides Pham Thi Kim Sanh to do homework. |
Like Pham Thi Kim Sanh, hundreds of poor, orphaned children in Quang Ngai now considered troops their supporters. With love and dedication, the officers and soldiers of the provincial military command have lit a fire of hope in children, helping them be more confident in their future, contributed positively to the local education cause.
Senior Colonel Trinh Cong Son, Deputy Political Commissar of the Quang Ngai provincial Military Command, emphasized that by being close to the people, troops have understood their struggles and the wishes of thousands of poor and orphaned children to attend school. Therefore, many volunteer initiatives to support the children, such as the “Foster Father,” “Paving the way to school for children,” and “Porridge Pot of Love” programs, have been launched.
While implementing the “Foster Father” model, the officers and soldiers have shown great care and responsibility for the children. They not only support them materially but also take time to help them with their education, nurture them, and even help prepare meals for the children in remote areas with the hope of providing them with a family’s warmth. Through these efforts, Quang Ngai’s troops have encouraged and inspired them to excel in their studies and grow into helpful citizens,” Colonel Son said.
Through silent yet noble deeds, the officers and soldiers of the provincial Military Command of Quang Ngai not only bring love to the children, but also help their dreams take off.
