As Typhoon Yagi hit Hanoi on September 7, it felled a lot of trees, hindering traffic and affecting local people’s activities. On the morning of September 8, thousands of officers and soldiers from military units garrisoned in Hanoi to joined hands with local militia and self-defense forces and functional forces to surmount the aftermath of the typhoon, trying to ensure smooth operation of transport.

* The same day, when notified of distressed vehicles in the waters of Quang Ninh province, the Coast Guard Region 1 Command sent Ship 8004 and canoes 721 and 722 to the rescue in the area of Ti Top Island, Phao Trong and Phao Ngoai islets. They saved 43 fishermen on board eight vessels and barges running aground and going adrift by Typhoon Yagi.

* Also on September 8, the Vietnam Coast Guard Command mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers from the Command and the Coast Guard Profession Training Center to team up with Hanoi’s functional forces to assist locals in overcoming the natural disaster consequences.

* Nearly 200 troops from Division 312 of Army Corps 12 helped residents in Tan Hoa village, Van Phai commune, Phu Yen city, Thai Nguyen province harvest submerged rice. They also tidied up some schools, trimmed fallen trees, cleaned roads and gave support to people in some communes in Soc Son district, Hanoi.

* In Luc Ngan and Son Dong districts of Bac Giang province, 300 officers and soldiers from Division 325 of Army Corps 12 evacuated people and their assets from the flooded areas to safer places.

* Division 3 of Military Region 1 assigned 100 troops to coordinating with forces in Dong Mo townlet, Chi Lang district and Dong Tan commune, Huu Lung district in Lang Son province to move locals and their property to safe areas. Earlier, on the evening of September 7, dozens of troops from Division 3 joined local forces to remove fallen trees on the road section of National Highway 1A in Dong Tan commune.

* As of September 8 afternoon, the Bac Giang provincial Military Command mobilized 730 officers and soldiers and over 11,700 militia and self-defense troops for Typhoon Yagi prevention and control efforts. They supported localities to gather fallen trees, fallen electric poles, and broken electrical wires; repair and reinforce local houses; and evacuate locals in heavily-flooded areas to safer places.
