Fulcrum of people in flood-hit areas

According to Colonel Nguyen Thanh Quang, Deputy Political Chief of Division 324, on July 26, the division mobilized 1,400 troops to help people in Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces. Specifically in Con Cuong commune, the unit reinforced the effort with an additional 150 personnel, bringing the total number of troops helping with flood recovery to nearly 500. They also adjusted their focus to prioritize the clearing of mud and debris from schools, cultural houses, office buildings, and key transportation routes to ensure connections between localities.

Phan Trong Trung, Vice Chairman of the Con Cuong commune People’s Committee, shared that many families have lost their homes and fields after the flood. However, amid such severe losses, troops have become a firm fulcrum for local people and authorities, giving them the strength to rise again in times of hardship.

Although the floodwater has receded, risks of landslides and flash floods still remain. In addition, the threat of disease looms due to contaminated water sources and deteriorating sanitation conditions. To address the situation, local medical forces are working closely with higher-level medical teams to disinfect the environment, prevent disease outbreaks, and ensure clean water resources, to name but a few. Meanwhile, local authorities distributed food, supplies, and other essential goods to flood-hit people, especially those in remote and isolated areas.

People-to-people ties in border areas

Fortunately spared from the worst of the flooding, the authority and people of Na Loi border commune pro-actively formed a special working team to support severely affected areas, particularly in Muong Xen. On July 26, a team of 60 members set out from Na Loi, carrying tools, food, and supplies to support people in Muong Xen commune in post-flood recovery.
