In his speech, Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Huy Hieu, Hero of the People’s Armed Forces and former Deputy Defense Minister, expressed his emotion and deep gratitude to the locals for their support to troops during the combat against foreign invaders in Quang Tri province.

According to Gen. Hieu, many of his comrades laid down their lives somewhere in the province and their remains have not been collected. Many temples have been built to commemorate and expressed gratitude to the fallen troops.

General Hieu highlighted the program, hoping that it will be spread and conducted more regularly to better the care for locals and express thanks to local policy beneficiaries and national contributors.

Saying that the program was practical to express gratitude to heroic Vietnamese mothers, wounded and sick soldiers and families of fallen troops as well as national contributors, Assoc. Prof. and Dr. Pham Le Tuan, Chairman of the Vietnam Military-Civil Medical Association, stressed that it helped them learn more about locals’ health, sanitation conditions, culture, thus contributing to building the people’s heart posture in the cause of health development in combination with local defense security posture-building.

Under this program, the organizers signed a memorandum of understanding with the provincial Health Department to call for more investment to improve local medical infrastructure and medical staff’s capability.

Apart from the aforementioned activities, the organizers offered incense and flowers to fallen troops at Truong Son National War Cemetery, Road 9 National War Cemetery, and Quang Tri ancient citadel.
