Gifts and national flags presented to disadvantaged ethnic minority households in Kim Ngan commune |
The delegation first visited Kim Ngan commune, a mountainous border area in western Quang Tri that was recently established through the merger of Ngan Thuy, Kim Thuy, and Lam Thuy communes. The commune shares more than 30.8 kilometers of border with Laos and has 2,481 households, with the Bru-Van Kieu ethnic group accounting for 68.5 percent of the population. Economic conditions remain difficult, with 623 households, or 25.85 percent, classified as poor.
During the event, the delegation provided updates on situation of the national sea and islands while encouraging ethnic minority residents to abandon outdated customs, preserve their cultural identity, strengthen solidarity, and improve their livelihoods. Coast Guard Region 2 also presented 50 gifts, each worth VND 1 million, to disadvantaged ethnic minority households.

Gifts and national flags presented to disadvantaged fishermen in Ninh Chau commune |
Later that day, the delegation traveled to Ninh Chau commune, a coastal locality with a 17.5-kilometer shoreline and an annual seafood catch of more than 4,000 tons. The program focused on raising awareness of regulations to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Speakers highlighted the negative impact of the E.C.'s "yellow card" warning on Vietnam's seafood exports and stressed that complying with fishing regulations and avoiding violations of foreign waters are both the responsibility and the interest of every fisherman.
The delegation also presented 50 gifts to policy beneficiary families and fishermen facing financial hardship, encouraging them to continue working at sea with confidence.
Speaking at the events, Senior Colonel Le Huy emphasized that the support of local authorities and residents is vital to helping the coast guard safeguard national sovereignty and enforce the law at sea. During the first six months of 2026, Coast Guard Region 2 conducted outreach for more than 1,000 fishing vessels, helped dismantle multiple drug trafficking and smuggling cases, and contributed more than VND 3 billion to the state budget. To meet new operational requirements, the unit is also integrating additional fisheries surveillance personnel and expanding its area of responsibility from Quang Tri to Gia Lai province.
