General Nguyen Trong Nghia presents gifts to patients who recently underwent eye surgery at the “Brighter Eyes of Viet Nam” Program. |
Jointly organized by Corps 16 and Military Hospital 175 in coordination with relevant agencies and units, the program provided free eye examinations, consultations, treatment, and cataract surgery for policy beneficiaries, relatives of officers and soldiers, workers, and disadvantaged people in Binh Phuoc province (now Dong Nai city).
From 2020 to 2025, the program conducted nine screening and treatment campaigns, examining more than 2,300 people and performing more than 250 free eye surgeries, with a 100-percent success rate. All patients remained stable after surgery and experienced improved vision, contributing to a better quality of life.
Speaking at the conference, GDP’s Chairman emphasized that the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defense, and GDP have consistently directed agencies and units in the whole military to combine training and combat readiness with mass mobilization, social welfare, poverty reduction, and community healthcare.

He described the “Brighter Eyes of Viet Nam” Program as a practical and humanitarian initiative that has helped bring the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on public healthcare into people’s lives. Its effectiveness is reflected not only in the number of people receiving examinations, treatment, and surgery, but also in stronger military-civilian solidarity. Restoring sight for wounded and sick soldiers, ethnic minority people, and disadvantaged residents also brings the “light of military-civilian solidarity,” helping strengthen the “people’s heart posture” in the area.
General Nghia commended Corps 16, Military Hospital 175, participating agencies and units, local Party committees and authorities, and medical personnel for their dedication and sense of responsibility in effectively implementing the program over the past five years.

He expressed his confidence that the program will continue to be implemented effectively in the next phase, with an expanded scope and greater number of beneficiaries. The program is expected to contribute to protecting and improving the people’s health, implementing social welfare policies, strengthening great national unity, and upholding the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” in the new era.
