“Military joins hands for the poor” program carried out
PANO – Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), chaired a conference on the implementation of a program themed “Military joins hands for the poor" on October 17 in Hanoi.
Over the past time, the Mass Mobilization Department under the GDP has worked with relevant units to make recommendations for the GDP’s leadership to design plans related to the program. It marks the 30th anniversary of the Whole People's Defense Festive Day and the 75th founding anniversary of the VPA.
Accordingly, the program’s Steering Committee allocated nearly VND 6 billion, extracting from the Defense Ministry’s “Fund for the poor,” to eight military units, including the Hanoi Capital Command and military regions, to conduct the program.
Currently, all units directly under the ministry have been carrying out the program’s plans.
Concluding the conference, General Phuong affirmed that the program aims to promote the country’s traditional saying, “When drinking water, remember its source.” As well as to show the sentiments and responsibility of the VPA in caring for needy people, disadvantaged localities, and national contributors.
Via the program, the organizing panel would like to encourage troops to promote the good tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers and heighten the spirit of solidarity in and responsibility for building new-style rural areas and sustainably reducing poverty. Via such social activities, military people can contribute to strengthening the national great solidarity and a firm people’s defense posture as well as to the national construction and defense cause.
The program is expected to be launched on November 6 at the Tan Trao Special National Historical Relic Site in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province. The program will be carried out in 75 sites throughout 30 poor districts across the country.
