Nguyen Dinh Khiem

The serviceman was the Officer Commanding of Company 3, Battalion 1, Brigade 513, Military Region 3. The noble order presented to him was to recognize his outstanding achievements in implementing unscheduled tasks in response to Typhoon Yagi in Luc Hon commune, Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh province.

Battalion 1 of Brigade 513 was tasked with constructing military infrastructure. Earlier, at around 9 a.m. on September 7, 2024, the battalion received a request from the people of Pat village, Luc Hon commune, to help secure their houses ahead of upcoming Typhoon Yagi. Major Nguyen Duc Thanh, Officer Commanding of Battalion 1 and his troops maneuvered to the village to assist the local residents.

During the operation, Captain Nguyen Dinh Khiem noticed that a fellow soldier slipped and was at risk of being crushed by a falling tree, which could endanger other soldiers. Khiem rushed to help and was struck by the tree himself, causing him to fall.
