Vietnam Coast Guard assists Philippines in disaster relief efforts
PANO - In recent days, several localities in Cebu City of the Philippines have suffered severe damage from super Typhoon Bualoi and a 6.9-magnitude earthquake, which caused 69 deaths, injured more than 150 people, and destroyed over 3,500 houses, with total estimated losses exceeding 1.7 billion pesos.
Following the directives of the Ministry of National Defense and the Vietnam Coast Guard, Ship CSB 8002 and the Vietnamese Coast Guard delegation, led by Maj. Gen. Tran Quang Tuan, Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, joined local authorities and residents in disaster relief efforts during their visit and exchange with the Philippine Coast Guard.
On October 8, officers and sailors of the Vietnam Coast Guard joined their Philippine peers in relief efforts. From the anchorage area of Ship CSB 8002, they traveled over 100 kilometers to Bogo Province, one of the hardest-hit areas, to provide aid and support to affected communities.
At the site, the delegation presented one ton of rice, along with instant noodles, ration bars, and bottled water, to local authorities and residents. At the same time, medical officers aboard Ship CSB 8002, in coordination with medical personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard, organized free medical check-ups and medicine distribution for local people.
The delegation’s activities were a noble gesture, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, friendship, and mutual assistance of the Vietnamese people toward international friends. These efforts contributed to fostering the honorable image of “Uncle Ho’s soldiers,” Vietnam Coast Guard soldiers in the new era.
