The agreement was reached at a meeting of the Special Working Committees of the Vietnamese and Lao Governments in Luang Prabang province, Laos on July 2.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Defense Minister. It also included Mr. Le Tan Dung, Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalid and Social Affairs; and Lieutenant General Do Can, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army; among others.

At the event, both sides highly valued the outcomes of the bilateral cooperation in the search and repatriation of remains of Vietnamese martyrs in Laos in the 2018-2019 dry season. Reports released, the two sides teamed up in searching for the remains of 230 martyrs, including three identified.

In addition, the two Committees published a documentary in Vietnamese and Lao languages on the two countries’ coordination in the work in the 1994-2016 period.

For the next dry season, Vietnam and Laos consented to step up the search for fallen Vietnamese soldiers’ remains in Laos.

Vietnam will send eight search teams to localities in Laos while the host country pledges to assist the Vietnamese teams and continuously encourage its people to provide information about Vietnamese martyrs and their graves.
