Practical support program

In mid-September 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front organized the “For National Sea and Islands - For the Nation’s Frontlines” program in Con Dao special zone. A highlight of the program was the effort to support the well-being of local residents and the forces stationed on the islands. On this occasion, the delegation inaugurated an integrated livestock farming facility at Flotilla 33 of Coast Guard Region 3. The organizing panel provided funding for facilities supporting training, combat readiness, and physical fitness at armed forces units in the area. Educational assistance was also presented to local students.

The delegation from the Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front also paid tribute to fallen soldiers and presented gifts to policy families and people with meritorious service to the country.

Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairman of the city’s Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, said the activities fostered patriotism and national pride while raising public awareness of the responsibility to protect the nation’s maritime sovereignty. He emphasized that, despite their modest material value, the projects and gifts carried lasting spiritual significance and reflected national unity and solidarity between the military and the people.

During a recent visit to the Southwestern islands, a delegation from the city organized cultural exchanges, maritime knowledge competitions, and visits to encourage service members and residents. The delegation also provided facilities, equipment, and gifts, worth more than VND 7 billion, to improve training, working, and living conditions for troops and islanders.

Rear Admiral Tran Manh Chien, Political Commissar of Naval Region 2, said that the support of Ho Chi Minh City’s Party committees, authorities, Viet Nam Fatherland Front, and residents had strengthened military-civilian solidarity and encouraged frontline personnel to remain steadfast in defending national sovereignty.

Renewed methods

The Ho Chi Minh City chapter of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front has coordinated with Naval Regions 2, 4, and 5 and Coast Guard Region 3 to build and hand over facilities to serve training, work, and daily activities of troops. Projects include Great Unity gardens, roofed and high-tech vegetable gardens, livestock facilities, food production systems, centralized food processing areas, and sailors’ clubhouses.

In 2026, the city launched the initiative “Each socio-political organization and each fatherland front grassroots unit is linked to an armed forces unit” to strengthen ties between those in the rear and frontline forces and help build a strong foundation of public support for national defense. To date, 178 armed forces units have been linked with the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations across 168 communes, wards, and special zones.

Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the city’s Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, said the initiative provides not only material support, but also strengthens military-civilian solidarity and reinforces society’s shared responsibility for protecting national sovereignty.

The city has also signed cooperation agreements with naval and coast guard units to promote maritime and island awareness and support fishermen.

Truong Thi Bich Hanh, Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee, stressed that protecting maritime sovereignty is a shared responsibility. Fatherland Front committees at all levels serve as a bridge between organizations, individuals, and forces stationed in border areas and islands, helping ease their difficulties and enabling them to fulfill their duties in safeguarding the nation’s sea and islands.
