PANO - The U.K. Royal Navy’s offshore patrol vessel HMS Spey docked at Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi International Port in Ho Chi Minh City on October 22, beginning a seven-day friendship visit from October 22 to 28.
The welcoming ceremony was attended by representatives of the Naval Region 2 Command, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, the Ministry of National Defense’s Department of Foreign Relations, the Military Region 7 Command, the Coast Guard Region 3 Command, and the U.K. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
The visit aims to strengthen the longstanding ties between Viet Nam and the U.K., particularly in defense and security cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces and navies.
Speaking to the press at the port, HMS Spey’s Commanding Officer, Commander Helen Taylor, expressed her pleasure and honor at visiting Ho Chi Minh City. She said this was her first visit to the city in her role as the ship’s commanding officer.
During the visit, the ship’s officers and crew will participate in cultural exchanges, engage with local schools, and take part in charitable activities.
The ship’s command team and crew are also scheduled to pay courtesy calls on leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, Military Region 7 Command, and Naval Region 2 Command. They will participate in cultural and sporting exchanges with personnel from Naval Region 2 and visit historical and cultural sites across the city.
HMS Spey is an offshore patrol vessel permanently deployed in the Indo-Pacific region to strengthen the Royal Navy’s presence and build strategic partnerships with allies in the region, including Viet Nam.
