Thanks to the support from the Vietnamese border guards, the locals could improve their production and have a better life.

On the way to the village, Major Ho Van Viet, Political Commissar of Nham Border Station, said that as the river water-level was rising and the road had been muddy and slippery on rainy days, no vehicles could move easily. Fortunately, in mid-2018, Sekong province’s authorities decided to rebuild the road and Major Viet’s unit sent troops to support the road construction. The new road has changed locals’ lives and developed the area, he stressed.

The mission was warmly welcomed by villagers when they reached Sesap village. It is easy to recognize that there are many friendship structures built by the Vietnamese State and people in the village.

Sumay, the village head, said that villagers have spent over a week preparing barns, digging holes for tree plantings, and buying fertilizers. All locals were touched and grateful for the assistance from the Vietnamese border troops, he affirmed.

On this occasion, the Vietnamese mission presented 200 fruit trees and 460 chickens to local households. According to Ho Thi Thang, Deputy Director of A Luoi District Agricultural Services Center, such a program is conducted twice a year.

Thanks to similarities in the climate and soil conditions, the donors could choose and offer appropriate seedlings and breeding livestock to Lao locals, helping them improve production. In addition, the locals regularly received farming experience and advice from the Vietnamese border troops, she added.

Talking to the mission, Khampai, one of the recipients in the previous program, happily shared that his 20 chickens have grown fast and his banana trees have fruited.

Major Ho Van Viet reaffirmed that the livelihood programs for Sesap natives have proved the effectiveness, contributing to encouraging locals to strive for sustainable poverty alleviation.
