Senior Captain Ho Van Huu helps hundreds of elderly Van Kieu and Pa Ko ethnic women learn how to read and write. |
As an ethnic person, he was fully aware of local customs and felt at home whenever visiting border areas. Knowing that many elderly ethnic women in the two communes of Ba Tang and A Doi are illiterate, he made recommendations to his leaders so as to open refresher courses to eradicate illiteracy in these communes. He also mobilized local women to join the courses.
He held that his first course had more than 30 students. Most of them are elderly. They quickly completed the six-month course and all of them knew how to read and write and do basic math sums.
By the end of 2022, Ba Tang Border Post worked with local authorities to organize five refresher courses with the participation of 180 students. In March 2023, Huu worked with local schools to open more courses to eradicate illiteracy.

Senior Captain Ho Van Huu is tasked with bringing the children to school and tutoring them every day. As a result, 100% of the students gained good study records in the 2021–2022 academic year, thanks to his wholehearted responsibility. Especially, two of them bagged first prizes during the provincial Science and Technology Competition in 2021.
As Head of the post’s Mass Mobilization Team, he actively worked with local authorities to encourage students to go to school while mobilizing their families to create favorable conditions for them to keep up with their study.
Since 2021, he has coordinated with local schools and youth unions to encourage many children to go to school. Besides, he also planned 25 extra lessons to disseminate information about national sovereignty over border areas, national borderlines and landmarks, thereby raising their awareness of the importance of Fatherland protection cause.
Huu shared that the outcomes were reached thanks to the great efforts of local authorities, Ba Tang Border Post, and functional agencies, as well as a small contribution from him, which is nurtured by patriotism and sentiments towards Van Kieu and Pa Ko ethnic minority groups in the province.
