These two major medical facilities serve tens of thousands of people in flood-affected areas. After days of severe inundation, their entire premises including corridors, departments, and rooms were covered in thick mud. Many medical equipment were damp, creating risks of contamination that could seriously affect healthcare services.
Troops of the city’s armed forces, together with local militia personnel, and medical staff of the two hospitals, joined hands in ensuring environmental sanitation, draining floodwater, removing mud, and disinfecting all affected areas. A number of mechanized equipment, pumps, chemicals, and lime powder were mobilized overnight to help the hospitals resume normal operations as soon as possible.
