Troops and militia force support locals in overcoming flood consequences
PANO – On the evening of June 16, the Department of Search and Rescue under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army reported that military units and militia forces had assisted local communities in responding to natural disasters and conducting rescue operations throughout the day.
Specifically, the Dam Doi district Military Command (under the Ca Mau provincial Military Command) deployed personnel to support local authorities in addressing riverbank erosion along the Thanh Tung River embankment in Thanh Tung commune, Dam Doi district. The Nghia Lo town Military Command (under the Yen Bai provincial Military Command) mobilized nearly 100 officers, troops, and militiamen to help residents recover from storm damage.
Meanwhile, the Chau Thanh district Military Command (under the Hau Giang provincial Military Command) mobilized militia forces to repair a collapsed section along the Mai Dam Canal in Phu Huu commune, Chau Thanh district. Armed forces from Muong Cha and Muong Nhe districts (Dien Bien Province) were also deployed to help local communities deal with flood impacts.
Regarding rescue operations, the Quang Ninh provincial Border Guard Command dispatched five personnel and a rescue boat to promptly assist and salvage Vessel QN 1774, which had sunk near Dong sluice gate in Thang Loi commune, Van Don district, and towed it back to the repair dock. Meanwhile, Coast Guard Vessel 8021 provided first aid and evacuated fisherman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, who had suffered a severe injury after his right arm became entangled in a winch cable, severing an artery in his right axillary region, and transferred him to shore for medical treatment.
