Border guards help people harvest rice after flash flood
PANO – After the flash flood, many properties in Nhon Mai Commune (Tuong Duong District, Nghe An Province) were damaged, and a large area of ripening rice fields was flattened, facing the risk of rotting.
Upon learning of the situation, officers and soldiers from Nhon Mai Border Station, under the Nghe An Provincial Border Guard Command, promptly assisted locals in dealing with the aftermath and harvesting their crops.
In the devastated fields of Nhon Mai Commune, dozens of border troops urgently helped residents harvest the damaged rice. Soldiers and locals cleared away mud, bundled the rice into small sheaves, washed them in nearby streams, and carried them home.

In recent days, Major Nguyen Anh Tuan from Nhon Mai Border Station and his comrades have directly helped many households with the rice harvest, prioritizing those with the greatest losses or limited labor. Maj. Tuan shared that the area’s terrain is mainly steep hills and mountains, where rice cultivation plays a vital role in ensuring food security. After the flash flood, nearly 70% of the rice fields nearing harvest were damaged. Therefore, all available personnel were mobilized to help villagers harvest quickly and minimize losses.
According to Lo Thi Hoai, a resident of Nhon Mai Commune, it broke her heart to see the rice flattened after the flood. She was deeply worried. Thanks to the wholehearted support from troops and neighbors, all the rice has now been harvested and brought home. They now have food stored for the upcoming rainy season.
One week after the flash flood, many villages in Nhon Mai Border Commune remain covered in mud. Forces have been actively working on recovery efforts to help residents overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives. Military units have built temporary shelters for families whose homes were swept away, dismantled houses in dangerous areas and relocated them, and assisted people in harvesting fallen rice.
