Naval unit supports fishermen
PANO – A program themed “The Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) supports fishermen at sea” took place on July 2 at the Ganh Hao Border Post in Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province.
The program was jointly organized by Brigade 167 under the Naval Region 2 Command and the Bac Lieu Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
During the event, Brigade 167 presented 50 life jackets and 2,000 national flags to local fishermen.
Over the past time, the Naval Region 2 Command distributed 250 leaflets disseminating information about Vietnamese seas and islands and regulations on fishing at sea, especially in disputed areas. The leaflets also included information on Directive No. 45/CT-TTg and a number of urgent tasks to deal with the European Commission (EC)’s warning of illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, and a number of situations facing fishermen when having accidents at sea as well as the VPN’s support to fishermen at sea.
This was a meaningful activity of the Naval Region 2 Command, aiming to encourage fishermen to continue their offshore fishing. It also helps fishermen to fish safely, sustainably and legally, contributing to protecting national sovereignty over seas and islands in the current context.
