Earlier, at around 5p.m. on March 10, the Naval Region 4 Command received a report that the QNg 90459 TS had suffered a steering gear failure and was drifting about 28 nautical miles southeast of Hon Tre island (Khanh Hoa province) and 26 nautical miles northeast of Cam Linh cape (Cam Ranh city). At the time of the incident, there were 36 fishermen on board.

Upon receiving the order, the Naval Region 4 Command immediately dispatched Ship 950 to rush to the scene for a rescue mission. Despite unfavorable weather conditions, after more than two hours of cruising, Ship 950 approached the distressed vessel at around 7p.m. the same day.

At that time, the sea area experienced level 5-6 Northeastern winds, rough waves of 2-3 meters high, and heavy rain, posing numerous difficulties for the approach and rescue operation. However, troops of Ship 950 encouraged the fishermen and urgently deployed towing lines.

After more than an hour of efforts amid complex waves and winds, the rescue force completed connecting the towing lines. At around 9p.m. on March 10, Ship 950 began towing fishing trawler QNg 90459 TS and all 36 fishermen to the mainland.

Welcoming the fishermen

Throughout the towing journey, Ship 950’s troops regularly monitored the fishing trawler’s condition, took care of the fishermen’s health, and offered encouragement. The timely and responsible support of the naval force helped the fishermen overcome the hardship and regain their spirit after the incident at sea.

By the morning of March 11, Ship 950 safely brought the fishing trawler to Ba Ngoi port and handed it over to local authorities as regulated. The health of all 36 fishermen remained stable.
