PANO - A solemn memorial service for four officers who died in a crash of the UH-1 helicopter of Regiment 917 of Air Force Division 370, during training mission in Ho Chi Minh City on January 28th was held on January 30th at the Funeral Parlour of the Ministry of National Defence in the South in Ho Chi Minh City.

Before the funeral service, the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence had decided to promote all the four fallen officers. Accordingly, Colonel Tran Van Duc, the captain was promoted to Senior Colonel; Major Le Hong Quan, the pilot and navigator, to Lieutenant Colonel; Lieutenant Nguyen Viet Cuong, the pilot, to Senior Lieutenant. Colonel Do Van Chinh, a non-commissioned officer and an engineer was suggested to get salary raised.

At the service, attended by senior officers of the army and representatives of military departments, local organizations and locals, the deceased’s contributions and brave sacrifice were recalled.

Earlier, on January 29th, the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, via the Air Defence-Air Force Service Command, gave regards and sent condolences to the families of the four fallen officers. The General Staff also supported each family VND 10 million.

Also on January 29th, a mission from the Air Defence-Air Force Service, led by its commander Lt. Gen. Phuong Minh Hoa, inspected the scene of the helicopter crash in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City and was reported on the collected data. The helicopter’s debris has been moved to a safe area for further investigation.
