Khmer female student volunteers to join military
PANO - This lunar New Year, the family of Ta Thanh Su and Truong Thi Yen in Hoa Duc hamlet, Hoa Tu 1 commune, My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province is happier than other years since their youngest daughter, Ta Thi Yen Ly, born in 2002, is recruited for military service.
Ly said that she dreamt of wearing military uniform. Thus, after graduating from Can Tho University, she I wanted to perform military service to contribute to the Fatherland building and defense cause. Learning that this year there is a quota for female recruits, she applied and was enlisted. Being aware of challenges to be faced, Ly said that trained in a military environment will help her mature and become a good citizen. “I will try to study, practice, observe discipline, and complete all assigned tasks well,” she stressed.

“Since we heard that our daughter was selected, our family has been very proud and honored, but also worried. We are happy that our daughter has been chosen to become a soldier in the Vietnam People's Army, but we are worried because we do not know if she can overcome the difficulties and challenges ahead. There will be a recruitment festival in a few days, we will encourage and remind our daughter to exert efforts, try hard, and feel secure when joining the military,” said Su.

He also shared that along with Tet greetings, local Party committee, authorities and friends phoned him to congratulate on his daughter’s recruitment. That was a source of encouragement for his family and the daughter as well.
With the motto of recruiting qualified youths, and the determination of the entire political system, this year, Soc Trang province is determined to meet the recruitment target assigned by the Government, the Ministry of National Defense and the Military Region 9 Command, as affirmed by Senior Colonel Huynh Thanh Phuc, Second-in-Command of the Soc Trang provincial Military Command.
