Founded on July 5, 1989, DK1 Battalion is tasked with the mission of managing and protecting DK1 platforms and reefs in Vietnam's Southern continental shelf.
Despite difficulties and hardships, troops of DK1 Battalion, with high determination, has successfully fulfilled assigned missions, contributing to safeguarding national sovereignty over the Southern continental shelf.

Over the past 35 years, the DK1 platforms have coordinated in rescuing nine distressed trawlers; provided emergency aid and medical treatment for hundreds of fishermen; supplied fresh water, fuel, provisions, and medicines to over 400 fishing boats; welcomed more than 500 delegations from the mainland. Troops of the DK1 platforms have earned the trust of the people and served as a solid fulcrum for fishermen fishing at sea.
Troops of the DK1 platforms have closely cooperated with the Vietnam Maritime Administration to maintain continuous operation of lighthouses, ensuring maritime safety for thousands of domestic and international vessels passing through the area. They have collaborated with meteorological and hydrological agencies to conduct observations and measurements of weather conditions and the dynamics of marine currents, laying the foundation for weather forecasting and natural disaster warnings. They have fired signal flares to notify fishing ships to seek shelters from storms.

Speaking at the meeting, Naval Region 2’s Political Commissar Senior Captain Tran Manh Tien praised DK1 Battalion’s achievements over the past 35 years. He requested DK1 Battalion’s Party Committee and Chain-of-Command to enhance the direction and leadership over the building of a politically strong unit, thus raising its ability and combat strength to excellently fulfill their mission of safeguarding the platforms and protecting the Southern continental shelf of the country. He also urged the unit to give support to fishermen and facilitate maritime economic activities.

With outstanding achievements in safeguarding the national sovereignty over sea, islands, and Southern continental shelf, DK1 Battalion has been honored with the third-class Fatherland Protection Order, the third-class Feats-of-Arms Order, and the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State. It has also received numerous commendations and other honorary titles from the Prime Minister, ministries, central agencies, and local authorities.
