The flight took place one day after a send-off ceremony organized by the Ministry of National Defense in Ha Noi. Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Viet Nam People’s Army, presided over the send-off ceremony.
Encouraging the hospital’s personnel before their departure, Sr. Lt. Gen. Le Quang Dao expressed his confidence that the entire unit would build on the achievements of previous rotations, promote solidarity and responsibility, overcome difficulties, demonstrate their professional competence, and successfully fulfill all assigned missions.

The Deputy Chief of the General Staff urged the hospital’s personnel to strictly observe military discipline and U.N. regulations; fulfill their medical duties effectively and ensure absolute safety; preserve and promote the image of Uncle Ho’s Soldiers, thereby contributing to enhancing Viet Nam’s position and reputation in the international arena.
After the L2FH Rotation 8 personnel arrive in South Sudan, the C-17 aircraft will transport personnel of the L2FH Rotation 7 back to Viet Nam, with the return flight expected on September 25.

Since Viet Nam first deployed a L2FH to South Sudan in 2018, Australia has continuously supported Viet Nam by providing air transportation for personnel and equipment of its L2FHs to South Sudan and bringing them back to Viet Nam after their missions end.
The L2FH Rotation 8 comprises 63 military personnel from military regions, army corps, military hospitals, the Viet Nam Department of Peacekeeping Operations and several other agencies and units across the military. The unit will replace the L2FH Rotation 7 at the U.N. Mission in South Sudan after its duties end.

During the preparation period, 100 percent of the personnel of the L2FH Rotation 8 completed training in political and military affairs, logistics and technical work, field medical expertise, and knowledge of U.N. peacekeeping operations. The unit also organized intensive English-language training and professional training in coordination with international partners, including International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Aero-Medical Evacuation Team (AMET), conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), International Humanitarian Law (IHL), and Explosive Ordnance Identification (EOI).
