Congratulating the DPRK on its achievements over the past 80 years, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), headed by WPK General Secretary and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un, the DPRK would successfully implement the Resolution of the ninth WPK Congress and achieve greater successes in national construction and defense.

The Vietnamese official affirmed that defense cooperation has always been an important field in traditional friendship between Viet Nam and the DPRK. With the care of the leaders of the two parties, states, and militaries, bilateral defense cooperation has achieved positive results in areas such as delegation exchanges at all levels, especially high-level ones, Party and political work, and education and training.
Based on the Letter of Intent on defense cooperation signed in 2025, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang proposed that the two sides continue promoting cooperation in delegation exchanges at all levels, Party and political work, cooperation between military services and arms, education and training, and other potential areas.
At the talks, the two sides also exchanged views on regional and international situations and issues of mutual concern.

Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang affirmed that Viet Nam consistently pursues an independent, self-reliant, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and development-oriented foreign policy, while diversifying and multilateralizing its foreign relations. Viet Nam also adheres to the “Four No's” defense policy and remains a reliable friend, partner, and an active and responsible member of the international community.

For his part, Senior Lieutenant General Ryo Chol Ung highly valued the long-standing traditional friendship between Viet Nam and the DPRK, which was established by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung and nurtured by generations of leaders of the two countries.
He expressed his hope that the talks would contribute to consolidating and deepening the bilateral defense relations. Appreciating the recent cooperation outcomes, the DPRK Vice Minister proposed that the two sides continue promoting practical and effective defense cooperation in line with the signed Letter of Intent, focusing on military medicine, Party and political work, military sports, and delegation exchanges.
