Lieutenant General Ngo Minh Tien, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, made that statement while leading a mission of the General Staff to inspect the city’s defense-military task performance on August 15.

Since the beginning of this year, the city’s political organizations have paid due attention to the implementation of defense-military tasks. They have concentrated their direction on developing the local economy in combination with consolidating defense-security as well as building civil defense and defensive areas.

Moreover, the budget for defense, military affairs and the resource of reserves have been guaranteed.

To improve the work, General Tien asked the municipal political organizations to continue embracing the Party’s and State’s policies and laws on the task; opening training courses to provide defense-military knowledge for different groups of trainees, especially key cadres; and creating favorable conditions for local socio-economic development.

Earlier, since August 12, the mission has worked with the Military Region 9 Command and its affiliated units, several border posts and militia watchtowers in An Giang province, and other units and localities in Can Tho city.
