During their patrols, the border guard forces not only ensured maritime security, but also disseminated legal regulations to ship owners, captains and fishermen through leaflets and direct conversations. They also provided guidance on how to properly maintain and submit logbooks, and operation of vessel monitoring system on vessels with 15 meters in length and over.

An officer of Flotilla 2 under the Ca Mau Provincial Border Guard Command inspects a fishing vessel.

On this occasion, the unit also presented national flags to fishermen, encouraged them to maintain their presence at sea, thus contributing to the protection of national sovereignty over sea and islands.

Earlier, Vice Chairman of Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee Le Van Su signed a decision on issuing Plan No.049/KH-UBND to combat IUU fishing at  its peak. The plan includes mobilizing forces to strengthen vessel inspection and supervision, requiring fishermen to sign commitments, and digitizing records of high-risk vessels. It also calls for strictly handling violations and tightening control at private fishing ports, estuaries, islands, where inspection evasion is often suspected.

These efforts aim to enhance fisheries management, complete the registration and inspection of fishing vessels, thoroughly address violations, thereby contributing to removing  the "yellow card"  warning of the European Commission during its upcoming 5th inspection in September 2025.
