During the meeting, the Vietnamese deputy defense minister stated that the visit demonstrates the strong and enduring ties between the two sides and will help further deepen and enhance the substance of Vietnam - Japan defense cooperation.

He noted that defense cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand and develop comprehensively in recent years, serving as one of the key pillars of bilateral relations.
Notable areas of cooperation include exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly high-level visits, as well as collaboration between arms and services, training, cybersecurity, defense industry development, and war legacy settlement efforts. These areas have been implemented effectively and have produced practical results.
Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Van Hien emphasized that Vietnam places great importance to developing human resources and strengthening national capabilities based on self-reliance, dual-use applications, and modernization to serve the goals of Fatherland protection and peace preservation. He expressed hope that both sides would continue advancing agreed areas of cooperation, including defense industry collaboration.
Congratulating General Uchikura Hiroaki on his appointment as Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff of Japan, General Hien expressed confidence that, in his new role, the Japanese general would continue promoting Vietnam - Japan defense relations, including cooperation between the two countries’ air forces, for the benefit of both peoples and for peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.
For his part, General Uchikura Hiroaki thanked Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense for its warm and thoughtful reception. He said his official visit to Vietnam contributes to implementing the outcomes of recent high-level exchanges between the leaders of the two countries and their defense ministries.

The Japanese military leader expressed his hope that bilateral defense cooperation, as well as the broader Japan - Vietnam relationship, will continue to grow stronger, more effective, and more substantive in the years ahead.
