Operations Departments of Vietnam and Lao People’s Armies hold talks
PANO - On April 2 in Hanoi, Lieutenant General Nguyen Huy Canh, Director of the Department of Operations under the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army, held talks with Major General Thongsamay Soukpasot, Director of the Department of Operations under the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army.
At the talks, the two sides evaluated that recent bilateral defense cooperation has been flexibly implemented with positive results. This has contributed to consolidating the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, maintaining stability, and enhancing each country's international status.
The two Departments of Operations have actively advised their respective General Staffs and Defense Ministries to effectively direct the implementation of tasks under the 2025-2029 Protocol. Key activities include increasing delegation exchanges and promoting twinning relationship between border localities and military units. They have also coordinated in researching, assessing, and forecasting situations to promptly propose strategic policies and solutions to their respective ministries, Parties, and States. These efforts aimed to protect national interests for regional peace, stability, and sustainable development, as well as to effectively carry out tasks in the 2025 cooperation plan between the two defense ministries.

The two sides agreed to continue advising their respective General Staffs and Defense Ministries to effectively implement the tasks outlined in the 2025-2029 Protocol. They also pledged to enhance coordination in researching and forecasting situations while directing the effective execution of the 2026 bilateral defense cooperation plan.
