In his opening remarks, VNDPKO’s Director Major General Pham Manh Thang emphasized that the course aims to equip personnel of the two units with the essential knowledge, methodologies, and professional skills required for U.N. peacekeeping deployment and mission execution, ensuring they meet U.N. standards and the tasks assigned by the Ministry of National Defense.
The course serves as a comprehensive assessment of the readiness of both units prior to deployment, providing a basis for further refining preparations for their scheduled deployment to the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and the U.N. Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in September this year.
The course consists of three phases, namely specialized professional training, U.N. peacekeeping training by functional modules, and a field exercise.
During the first phase, both units will be provided with skills in force protection for the protection detachment, in communications, logistics, and sustainment operations. The second phase will cover the U.N. pre-deployment training package, mission-area familiarization, supplementary knowledge, and supporting skills for functional sections.

In the last phase, the trainees will take part in a one-side two-level command and staff exercise with field contents.
During the course, the trainees will improve their command of English language according to A1 and A2 programs aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Instructors are from agencies and units across the Vietnam People's Army.
To ensure the highest training quality and effectiveness, Gen. Thang asked instructors to thoroughly prepare lesson plans and teaching materials; update new knowledge, changes and adjustments in U.N. missions; conduct mission-oriented, practical training; and provide summaries, comments, and individual evaluations for each trainee and training group after every lesson.
On behalf of the instructors, Colonel Nguyen My Hanh stated that the curriculum extends beyond professional skills to include knowledge of the U.N. system, standards of conduct for peacekeepers, protection of civilians, gender equality, safety and security, strategic communications, and mission-specific requirements.

She stressed that with the highest sense of responsibility, the instructors are committed to delivering comprehensive, up-to-date and effective knowledge, skills and practical experience gained through training, operational service and participation in U.N. peacekeeping operations. They will provide every possible support to help trainees successfully complete the program.
