Navy leader welcomes new U.S. Defense Attaché
PANO – Rear Admiral Luong Viet Hung, Deputy Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy (VPN), received Colonel Thomas Stevenson, newly-appointed U.S. Defense Attaché to Vietnam, in Hanoi on October 1.
At the meeting, Rear Admiral Hung highlighted the glorious tradition of the VPN and mentioned a number of measures to boost friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ people, militaries, and navies.
Over the past time, the VPN and the U.S. Navy (U.S.N.) have joined a number of activities, such as international conferences on underwater medicine, maritime security, humanitarian relief, and natural disaster mitigation. Especially, the two sides jointly organized several training courses in fields of mutual concern.
Particularly, warships of the U.S.N. paid port calls in Vietnam. During their stays, U.S. naval soldiers held exchanges with their Vietnamese peers, contributing to expanding mutual understanding and relationship.
