Deputy Chief of General Staff receives US guests
PANO - Senior Lieutenant General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army hosted a reception for a delegation from the US Senate led by Senator Tammy Duckworth at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense on August 20.
Warmly welcoming the US Senate delegation to Vietnam, General Minh believed that the visit would strengthen the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership.
General Minh stressed that the bilateral defense cooperation has developed in a practical and effective manner, especially in delegation exchanges, dialogues, war consequence relief, search and rescue, humanitarian assistance, military medicine, personnel training, and UN peacekeeping operations-related experience-sharing.

The Vietnamese general also highly valued the two countries’ great efforts and cooperation in successfully implementing the project for environmental remediation of dioxin contamination at Da Nang airport as well as the direct engagement of the US Department of Defense in the similar project at Bien Hoa airbase.
For his part, Senator Tammy Duckworth hoped that the two sides would reinforce their cooperation in all aspects in accordance with the two countries’ comprehensive partnership, the Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening defense ties signed in 2011 and the Joint Vision Statement on Defense Cooperation inked in 2015.
The US senator also expects the two sides to continue to seek more opportunities of cooperation in the areas of common concern.
