GS leader receives Lao guest
PANO - On April 2, at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense (MND), Deputy Chief of the General Staff (GS) Senior Lieutenant General Pham Truong Son received visiting Major General Thongsamay Soukpasot, Director of the Department of Operations under the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army.
At the meeting, Sr. Lt. Gen. Son emphasized that in recent years, defense ties between Vietnam and Laos have continued to develop substantively and effectively, serving as one of the key pillars of bilateral relations. Notable outcomes have been achieved across various fields, including exchanges of delegations at all levels, particularly high level ones; effective maintenance of cooperation mechanisms; collaboration in border management and protection; human resource training; dissemination of information about the special Vietnam - Laos solidarity; search, collection, and repatriation of martyrs’ remains; and coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums.

The host highly appreciated the efforts of the operations agencies of both militaries in implementing cooperative activities, especially in information exchange and giving advice on strategic policies and solutions to the leadership of the parties, states, and ministries of national defense of the two countries.
Maj. Gen. Thongsamay Soukpasot briefed Gen. Son on the outcomes of his earlier talks the same day with his Vietnamese counterpart Lt. Gen. Nguyen Huy Canh. He affirmed that both departments would further strive to enhance the effectiveness of their cooperation.
Based on the results of the talks, the Vietnamese GS leader suggested the two agencies further strengthen close coordination, enhance sharing of information and experience, and continuously innovate to improve the quality of advisory work on military and defense affairs to the leadership of the two MNDs.
