At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam and Russia are enjoying a long-standing traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership. He said that Vietnam always treasures and bears in mind the great and effective support of the Soviet Union in the past and Russia at present for its national liberation and construction cause. 

Within the framework of the beautiful political relationship, the defense cooperation ties between Vietnam and the Russian Federation have been effectively implemented in the spirit of “trust, practicality, efficiency and comprehensiveness.” The two sides have signed 18 treaties and international agreements at the Government and Ministry of Defense levels, effectively maintained eight cooperation mechanisms, and carried out 23 cooperation contents in various fields. The defense cooperation contents between Vietnam and Russia have been one of the two governments’ priorities.

The Vietnamese defense minister emphasized that President Ho Chi Minh was the beloved leader of the Vietnamese people, an indomitable revolutionary, and a close friend of nations in the world. More than 30 years seeking the path to national liberation and 30 years leading the Vietnamese people in its national liberation cause, President Ho Chi Minh travelled to around 60 countries around the world, and Russia held the great position in his heart and had the strongest influence on his revolutionary career.

General Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people have considered preserving and safely protecting President Ho Chi Minh’s body a special political mission. It demonstrates the “When drinking water, remember its source” tradition of the Vietnamese people and their boundless love and respect for President Ho Chi Minh. This sacred task and great responsibility were assigned to the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam, directly to the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command by the Party, State and people.

General Giang emphasized that the Vietnamese State’s presentation of the third-class Labor Medal to VILAR Institute is the country’s recognition of the great and responsible support of generations of medical scientists and leaders of VILAR Institute to the preservation of President Ho Chi Minh’s body.

The Vietnamese defense leader said that the work of medical scientists and leaders of VILAR Institute has contributed to consolidating the close solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and Russia. He hoped that VILAR Institute will continue assisting the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command in training personnel and cooperating with the unit in scientific research and transfer of modern technologies for embalming the late leader’s body. He expressed belief that the support of VILAR Institute will help the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command successfully fulfill assigned missions.

For his part, Russian academician Sidelnikov Nikolai Ivanovich thanked Vietnam for inviting him to attend the conference to review the 30-year cooperation in preserving President Ho Chi Minh’s body and the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense for supporting VILAR Institute fulfill missions during its direct cooperation with the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command.  

The Russian official showed his respect and special sentiment for President Ho Chi Minh and affirmed that VILAR Institute will continue working with the President Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Protection Command to effectively carry out the mission of preserving President Ho Chi Minh’s body.
