Sr. Lt. Gen. Álvaro López Miera, Minister of Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, offers flowers at the monument in memory of Cuban military advisors who sacrificed and devoted themselves to Vietnam’s national salvation struggle.

Sr. Lt. Gen. Nguyen Truong Thang, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of National Defense attended the event.

The monument is located in the International Solidarity and Friendship Memorial Area in the outdoor space of the Vietnam Military History Museum. Standing over three meters tall, the monument depicts five figures symbolizing Cuba’s direct support in treating wounded Vietnamese soldiers during the fierce battles in Quang Tri. At its center is a Cuban military doctor treating an injured Vietnamese soldier, reflecting the shared hardships of Cuban medical staff on the battlefield. Surrounding figures include Vietnamese soldiers carrying the wounded on stretchers, guarding their comrades, and standing ready for combat.

An inscription at the base of the monument reads, “President Ho Chi Minh affirmed: Vietnam and Cuba are geographically distant, but morally identical.”

In the Vietnam’s resistance war against the U.S. imperialists, Cuban leader Fidel Castro emphasized, “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed its own blood.” Transcending space and time, Vietnam - Cuba relations remain a special bond and an exemplary symbol of pure, faithful international solidarity for independence, freedom, and human dignity.
