Political sections of Vietnamese and Lao armies look to enhance cooperation
PANO – Deputy-Director of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Trong Nghia, held a meeting with a delegation of the General Department of Politics of the Lao People’s Army (LPA) led by Deputy-Chief of the Office of the LPA General Department of Politics, Lieutenant Colonel Singkham Thamavong, who is on a visit to Vietnam.
At the meeting, the Lao head delegate briefed General Nghia on the outcomes of the talks held earlier between the two delegations of the Offices of the LPA General Department of Politics and VPA General Department of Politics. He underscored that the two sides had agreed on measures to boost cooperation in the future, particularly focusing on effectively realizing the agreements reached by political leaders of the two armies in 2018.

Hailing the outcomes of the earlier talks between the two sides, General Nghia suggested that the two sides should closely follow directions of leaders of the two Defense Ministries and General Departments of Politics. He also asked the two Offices to instruct relevant agencies and units of the two armies to enhance cooperation on Party and political work. Specifically, defense cooperation between the two sides should be focused on information and communications, political personnel training, expert exchange, search and repatriation of remains of fallen Vietnamese troops in Laos, exchange of expert delegations at all levels, as well as sport, art and cultural exchanges, in line with the agreements reached by the two sides during the recent Vietnam visit of Director of the LPA General Department of Politics, Lieutenant General Vilay Lakhamphong, to contribute to strengthening the Vietnam-Lao special unity and friendship.
General Nghia also said that the Vietnam People’s Army Newspaper (PAN) is bound to publish Lao and Khmer online editions.
“We hope to receive supports from the Office of the LPA General Department of Politics for the PAN’s Lao online edition,” the host said.
